The Comadre Research Lab is a research lab founded by Elisa Velasquez-Andrade, Ph.D. and was later joined by co principal investigator Daniel Malpica, Ph.D. The lab aims to recognize the importance of the comadre relationship, a culturally unique relationship between two Latina women, as an intervention to increase the retention of Latina women in higher education.
Marc initially began his journey in this research lab as an undergraduate research assistant that helped in the process of transcribing previously recorded interviews. He then continued his journey in as lab manager during his gap year and spearheaded the completion of the remaining interview transcriptions with a team of 4 research assistants to later be presented at the Western Psychological Assocation Research Conference and local university symposiums. Much of the skills he learned about qualitative research methods from this research lab include gathering participants, interviewing, transcribing, thematic analysis, and interrater reliability. All the Marc has done with this lab is referenced below!
