The Scientific Identity Development Project was a collaborative effort between three undergraduates under the supervision of Elisa Velasquez-Andrade, Ph.D. to investigate the importance of undergraduate research oppurtunities for underrerpresnented students in higher education. They did this by presenting a workshop that highlighted the negative impact of the social determinants of health through a psychological lens, and documented their empowering experience through qualitative insights.

The students that lead this project were able to secure over $2000 in funding from the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Office of Sonoma State University and were offered an oppurtunity to share suggestions to the Office of how to further empower these underrepresented students to pursue research in higher education.
